Soleil Levant is the project of Jacob & Annalee, partners and wedding photographers based out of New England. We became wedding photographers because we fell in love with the authenticity of the day, the excitement and planning process, and all of the unexpected happy moments that come along. On the wedding day, we focus on a photojournalistic style to capture the candid, sentimental moments that make every wedding unique. We work with digital, and medium format film to get the best of both worlds. Through our approach, we always aim to plan our photography of the wedding day in a way that doesn’t detract from the experience and allows our clients to stay in the moment and truly enjoy their wedding. After all, the photos will only be as meaningful as the beautiful day they reflect

Soleil Levant Boston Wedding Photographer

jacob Chang-Rascle

My love for photography started at seven, when my dad purchased a small Leica camera for himself to photograph our vacations visiting family in France. After incessantly bothering my parents for a camera of my own for a month straight, I was gifted a tiny point and shoot, and everything was set in motion.

I shot my first wedding at 16, and with all the years that have passed, I’ve grown to love more and more the responsibility and honor of capturing one of the most important days in a person’s life. Today, I photograph weddings on digital, as well as on 35mm and medium format film. The artistry of image making and color science is constantly on my mind and I’m always striving to learn more.

Finding ways to ensure the day runs smoothly while also factoring in the location, lighting, and color of each scene makes every big day an exciting challenge. After studying cinematography in film school, I’ve tried to translate the elements of lighting and composition into a wedding context to create an effortless, timeless style. Several years spent shooting for local newspapers taught me to think like a photojournalist, and the importance of never missing the decisive moment. Nothing is more rewarding than distilling all the excitement, whirlwind emotions, and small moments of a wedding into a curated set of perfect images.

When not behind the camera, you’ll find me backpacking in the mountains, playing the guitar and piano, or probably just darkroom printing color film in my bathroom. To see my work outside of weddings, visit my personal site.

My approach is all about capturing images that are authentic to you, filled with genuine emotion, and brimming with joy.

I love teaming up with couples to plan timelines, answer all the questions, and share my experiences. My aim is to become more than just your photographer—I want to be a true friend!

Every wedding is unique, and I cherish the special moments and the privilege of watching each love story unfold.  I adore being part of your celebration and all the emotions that come with it. I’m also a pro at organizing people (details are my thing—I make sure there are no sunglasses, phones in pockets, etc.), and solving any issues on the fly. My goal is always to help each couple stay present and soak up all the feels of their big day. And, full disclosure: don’t be surprised if you see me tearing up at some point during your wedding!

When I’m not capturing love stories, you’ll probably find me geeking out over the perfect latte art!
